"Thy Kingdom Come"
"Thy Kingdom Come" is an initiative begun a couple of years ago by Archbishop Welby for the ten days between Ascension Day and Pentecost, when Christians would give special time and attention to prayer that God's Kingdom might become ever more apparent and that loving acts might be done on earth.
What began as a Church of England proposal rapidly spread to other Christian traditions in the UK and then to other countries.
Archbishop Richard asks that the parish church is open for a period each weekday for prayer. In Woods it will be weekdays from Thursday (Ascension Day) 10th May to Friday 18th May from 7.30am - 8.00am. The Rector might be alone in the building, but parishioners who cannot be there might well be joining with her in prayer at home for the world and the extension of God's Kingdom. And, of course , l am not alone and you are not alone.
The Archbishop writes: Christians throughout the world will be giving special attention to prayer during these days. Never doubt the power of prayer. Mary Queen of Scots, supposedly once said that she feared the prayers of John Knox more than all the armies of Europe.... Can we have that confidence in prayers of faithful people?
